Capitol Hill Porch Fest

Privacy

Short version: this website does not track you, sets no advertising or analytics cookies, and needs no account. That is why you will not see a cookie banner.

1.What stays on your device

To keep the lineup and your picks available when the network is weak on festival day, your browser stores, on your device only:

  • the last lineup, schedule and map data you loaded;
  • the bands you starred in “My plan”;
  • a copy of the site's pages so they open offline.

None of this is sent to us or to anyone. Clearing your browser's site data removes it.

2.Your location

Only if you press “Near me” or the locate button on the map, your browser asks your permission and shows your position on the map to list the nearest porches. The position is computed and used on your device; it is never sent to us or stored.

3.Services the site relies on

Like any website, loading these services shares your device's IP address and browser type with them:

  • Supabase — hosts the festival data (porches, bands, schedule).
  • OpenFreeMap — draws the map (only when the map is shown).
  • YouTube — only when you press a band's “Preview”, in YouTube's privacy-enhanced mode.
  • Google Maps / Apple Maps — only when you ask for walking directions, in their own app or site.
  • Our web host, which keeps standard, short-lived server logs.

4.Band and porch-host registration

Registration uses Google Forms. The forms ask for what we need to organize the festival: band or porch details, and a contact person’s name, e-mail address and phone number. By submitting a form you agree that we use it as follows:

  • Why: to review applications, match bands with porches, and contact you about the festival (schedule, changes, weather). We do not send marketing e-mails, and we never sell or rent your information.
  • Who sees it: the volunteer organizing team only, in Google’s services (the forms and their spreadsheets) and in our organizers’ back office, which is protected by individual sign-in.
  • How long: we keep it for up to 12 months after the festival to plan the next edition, then delete it — sooner if you ask.

Google processes form answers under its own privacy policy.

5.What is published about bands and porch hosts

Band names, genres, descriptions, links, porch numbers and addresses and set times are published with the participants’ consent (see the Terms). The organizers decide when set times and addresses go public, and a host may ask for their address to stay off the site until festival day. Contact details (names of people, e-mail addresses, phone numbers) are never published on this site.

6.Children

This website collects no personal information from visitors of any age, and it is not directed to children under 13. Registration forms must be completed by an adult (18 or older); a band with members under 18 is registered by a parent, guardian or adult band leader.

7.“Do Not Track”

Because this website does not track visitors across sites or over time, it treats every visit the same way, whether or not your browser sends a “Do Not Track” or Global Privacy Control signal.

8.Security

Festival data is stored with access rules that let visitors read only what is published; only listed organizers can sign in to change it. No method is perfect: if we ever learn that information we hold was exposed, we will tell the people concerned promptly, as District of Columbia law requires.

9.Changes to this notice

If we change this notice, we update the date at the top of this page. If a change affects how we use registration information, we will also tell registered participants by e-mail.

10.Your questions and requests

To ask what we hold about you, or to have your information or a published entry corrected or removed, write to porchfestcapitolhill@gmail.com. We answer within 30 days.
